5 Essential Tips for Creating Engaging Presentations

After a few years freelancing and completing gigs on Upwork and Fiverr, I want to share some insights on creating engaging presentations. These strategies can significantly improve how you connect with your audience and convey your message. Let's kick off with five basic tips to enhance your presentation scripts:

🫂 Empathy

Put yourself in your audience's shoes. Understand their perspective, strengths, and weaknesses. Create an emotional connection through your words and visuals. The better you grasp your audience, the more impactful your presentation will be.

🎯 Focus

Keep your content relevant. Avoid unnecessary information and be objective. Value both your time and your audience's time by eliminating irrelevant passages whilst ensuring you cover all important points.

🧏🏻‍♂️ Right Amount of Information

Strike a balance in your content. Don’t assume what your audience knows or doesn’t know. Gauge their knowledge level during the presentation if needed. This helps you adjust your depth of explanation, avoiding information overload or scarcity.

📏 Putting Things into Perspective

Make numbers and data relatable. For instance, instead of just saying "10.91 billion litres of water," say "10.91 billion litres of water – enough to fill over 4,300 Olympic-sized swimming pools." This approach makes information more tangible and memorable.

🥴 No Self-praise (please)

Let your work speak for itself. Present facts about your ideas, projects, or products without boasting. Allow the audience to form their own positive opinions. A well-crafted script should guide the audience to recognise the strengths of what you’re presenting on their own.
